An article in Window and Door magazine stated that a rebound in construction and replacement markets pegged to last the next few years is boosting entry-door manufacturers' optimism about fresh orders. Officials from three door makers in the US and Canada said they are bracing for double-digit climbs in new orders due to renewed consumer confidence in the housing market.

Envisioning how to fit windows in San Antonio homes has gotten easier with the help of 3-D home design software. These computer-aided design (CAD) tools present a realistic rendering of what homes would look like, helping greatly with site planning, landscaping, house construction, room design, and door and window installation. According to the San Antonio Express-News, couple Julie Friedman and Jonathan Spector got their dream home with the help of design software. The were eyeing a home with a nice garden, but which lacked two bedrooms for their five kids. Instead of searching for another property, they asked design builder Howard Kandel to remodel the home. Using a software called Chief Architect, Howard presented them with a new design—one that proposed that the formal family room be split and converted into two rooms for children.

On July 15th, 2013, a group of thieves broke into a home on the 7300 block of Clear Water Street and demanded money, jewelry, and drugs. An hour-long SWAT standoff at a nearby home followed. Soon after, ten people were arrested. It was a tense Monday morning for the residents of Northwest Side.

Volunteer organization STAR (Students Together Achieving Revitalization) and the Office of Historic Preservation recently finished renovations to 16 houses in the Knob Hill Historic District. Upon the completion of the project, Councilwoman Ivy Taylor paid a visit to thank the volunteers, saying that their efforts made up “one piece of the puzzle that provides real solutions to address revitalization efforts of the city.”
